Google Headquarters, Bayview CA

Bay View campus is a cluster of three buildings organized across a 16ha (40 acre) site that includes an events center and two workplaces for 5,000 Googlers. The petal certified, all-electric, and net water positive campus is a model of sustainability with the largest geothermal installation in North America. The core & shell buildings and site were designed by Bjarke Ingels Group & Heatherwick Studio. Zain was a member of the workplace design team at Studios Architecture who provided interior architecture for the project.

Bayview is an urban-scale interior featuring roughly 18 interior courtyards, the majority of which compare in size to a basketball court or small city plaza. Walking from the far corner of one dome to the other corner, a purely interior walk, can take 3-5 minutes. This unique condition of scale prompted Studios to treat the interior of Bayview like a small city, its corridors as streets, team huddles and conference rooms as neighborhoods & courtyards as town squares.

“The design of Bayview is akin to the design of an interior town, oriented around Google’s mission of innovation and discovery, and operating on a foundation of profoundly green infrastructure.” - Zain Ellis
